Giovanni Bellini

bellini imago pietatis

From 9th November 2012 to 25th February 2013
Poldi Pezzoli Museum
The exhibition revolves around one of the masterpieces of the museum, the Imago Pietatis by Giovanni Bellini. Within a few years, from the second half of the fifties and sixties of the fifteenth century, the artist made the transition from the Byzantine icon to the fully Renaissance-humanist image of Christ in Pietà.
For the occasion, paintings of Bellini’s precursors and followers will be exhibited in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum alongside this core group, to help the public understand the impact that the Venetian artist had not only on contemporary painting but also on taste and collecting through the various ages.
