An unconventional building with an intellectual design, in the heart of Milan.
64 rooms, classic, relax, well being, deluxe and suites combine two philosophies which are unlikely but successful partners: extreme hi-tech functionality with a minimalist feel and the warm, intimate atmosphere of rooms designed with elegant, innovative materials like quarry-rough slate, burnished brass, concrete and iron, gauze-effect glass and aged mirrors, along with furnishings specially designed by Vincenzo De Cotiis.
The STRAF project arose from the need to turn a new page regarding the currently clichéd concept of a “hotel”. Here, architect and artist Vincenzo de Cotiis has achieved his goal of creating a visually striking alternative to standard hotel design. This design hotel is situated in the city centre, a few steps from the Duomo Cathedral and it stems from a new idea of hospitality characterized by a careful and customized yet informal service. With its innovative design and décor, its venue facilities perfectly reflect this. The restaurant, the fitness room, the event and meeting room, which often hosts cocktails, fashion and art shows, as well as the well known street BAR STRAF, complete ad characterize the hotel.
“I imagine the STRAF hotel as a type of installation, a concept from which I began to extract a multitude of elements associated with contemporary art, such as ‘Arte Povera’, hence the easthetic development is based on an ethical criterion of recycling objects and placing them in a new surrounding”.
Vincenzo De Cotiis
